While humans are complex beings with
different motivations and feelings, our lives,
our relationships with others and our menial behaviours are all reduced into images attempting to represent us.
The power of stock imagery is in their ambiguity; they simultaneously tell us visual stories that we understand and recognise, at the same time, not telling us anything at all. By this, stock images achieve universality through rarely representing images of specific cultures, rather a generic life.
Users benefit from the cloud that holds these images, making ambiguous pictures so easily shareable. Despite the superficial perspectives that stock images present, they vaguely reflect the user back to themselves which is something that is oddly appealing to many.
